After a fire ravaged the site in rural Portugal, architect Miguel Marcelino designed this country house on its existing stone garden terraces.

The couple love the home’s privacy and the way it interacts with the environment. They describe certain rooms as feeling like being inside a treehouse with views out to the surrounding forest canopy.

A massive gable roof draping the first floor makes this two-story house feel more like one.

The renovated kitchen is open, airy, and connected to the rest of the main level. Plum Projects used Bedrosians Magnifica Luxe polished white porcelain for the island, countertops, and backsplash. Nestled just a stone's throw from the water, the home has been thoughtfully built into its tree-filled lot. Parking is provided by an oversized carport, which includes a Tesla charger.
