The sprawling Californian landscape and the wildness of the surrounding vegetation is perfectly offset by the geometric pattern of the tiles in shades of gray. The main patio is tiled using Techo-Bloc Diamond pavers in contrasting Smooth and Granitex textures, with a border of rectilinear Para slab and Raffinato cap around the pool. The Greyed Nickel color visually unites the variety of shapes to create a refined finish—add comfy chairs and a firepit and you’ve got a dreamy spot to watch the sunset.

Techo-Bloc’s Aquastorm pavers are designed to allow grass to grow between them, creating a unique play between the softness of grass and the functionality of concrete. They’re also anti-flood and permeable, making them as functional as they are beautiful.

Techo-Bloc’s Industria 600 x 100 pavers in Greyed Nickel add a refined rhythm to this circular patio that punctuates a vast expanse of grass on the edge of a lake. The regularity of the gridded tiles and the perfectly formed circle are pleasingly juxtaposed by the rough-hewn stone firepit.

This home is elevated by the dramatic outdoor space, which uses large-scale Techo-Bloc Para tiles as a starting canvas. A scattering of Techo-Bloc Diamond pavers in colors that echo the home’s exterior palette create a dynamic abstract composition that connects the outdoor kitchen to the fire pit and stone bench.

Round windows and circular forms appear throughout the home. This aperture bears a strong resemblance to a porthole.

Boat design inspired the concept for the bedroom and bathroom. “Boats are where great design meets small spaces,” explains de la Vega.

Wrapped with an acrylic mirror, the addition essentially disappears into the surrounding greenery. A deep, round, porthole-like window looks out on a small pond that also reflects the garden.

The former painting studio is now a multipurpose kitchen/dining/living/office space. Woodworking accounted for a major portion of the renovation budget—many of the furnishings were custom made using either pine or birch plywood (as seen in the countertop and office table).

The office space—which had been the former workspace of the client’s father—was left as is.

“Everything is located around the perimeter to create as much usable space as possible,” says de la Vega. The firm designed the banquette to do double duty as a storage trunk, and the wall hides custom-made closets with holes for hanging paintings and models. The vintage chairs are by Eero Aarnio for Asko.

“This was a former painting workshop, so it has lots of light but no insulation. The roof structure was maintained as is, but we painted it white and covered it with dark natural cork,” shares de la Vega. The pine was all sourced locally from the north of Spain, and the door leads to the couple’s bedroom.

The bedroom features a feature wall, built-in bookshelf, and bed made from pine. All of the furniture is custom made except for the vintage French folding beach chair.

The perforated steel wall with the oculus window also serves as a backlit closet.

Guido and his girlfriend, Stefania, relax on a Monopoli couch from Désirée in vibrant shades of green. “When Stefano chose the wall colors, I thought, well, at the worst we’ll have to repaint,” says Guido. “Now I wouldn’t change it.”

The wallpaper is the Heavens Dondi Colorscape from Flat Vernacular. A Vitsoe modular shelving unit will age with the child’s storage needs.
