The laneway house is just across a small shared patio behind Robert and Debra’s house.

Patrick Marcoux, assistant to photographers Michael Graydon and Nikole Herriott, peeks out of the second-floor apartment.

The one-bedroom has a full kitchen with a Bosch dishwasher and a 24-inch GE range.

Here, the couple’s photographer friend Eliot Wright sits inside the laneway house.

The charred wood siding is from Blackwood Siding, while the standing-seam metal cladding is from Agway Metals, installed by Novak Cladding. All of the structure's windows and doors are from Tiltco Architectural and Velux.

The shelves in the kitchen are crafted from pine and suspended using leather straps. These shelves display glasses, mugs, and a few select bowls, while everything else is neatly tucked away inside the cabinets, keeping the counters clear and drawing the eyes upward to the large horizontal window.

The kitchen features organic materials, such as wood and leather, with a matte-white quartz counter. "We wanted the space to feel uniquely warm and lived-in while achieving some modern aesthetic," says Tarah.

The guest bedrooms feature numerous amenities, including built-in closets. The clean lines of the black-framed mirror contrast with the more rustic shiplap walls.

The guest bathroom features modern fixtures, cement-look tile, and subway tile. "This gives the space an elevated feel with high functionality, using some of the most basic materials," says Tarah.
